How Iowans can file a claim in a lawsuit against Wal-Mart

Attention Walmart shoppers! Thanks to a $45 million class action settlement, the retail giant may owe you some money!

The Des Moines Register reports that the lawsuit against Walmart alleged that people who bought certain meat products by weight, called weighed goods, and certain citrus fruits sold in bulk, called bagged citrus, paid more than the advertised price at Walmart stores. Here’s who is eligible to file a claim in this class action lawsuit.

The Register reports that you can file a claim if you purchased personally weighed goods or bagged citrus fruits at Walmart stores in America and Puerto Rico from October 19, 2018 to January 19, 2024. This is what falls under the category of weighed goods.

  • beef
  • chicken
  • pork
  • turkey
  • seafood

This is what is considered bagged citrus.

  • organic oranges
  • grapefruit
  • tangerines
  • navel oranges

According to the register, the fruit must have been sold in mesh or plastic bags. You can search for which products are covered by the lawsuit HERE.

If you are interested in filing a claim, you can file yours online HERE. The Register reports that you can also download a form and send it by post. All claims must be submitted or postmarked by June 5, 2024.

So how much money can you expect Walmart to get in this settlement? As with any class action lawsuit, this will depend in part on the number of customers filing claims. It also depends on how many weighed goods or bagged citrus fruits you purchased at Walmart stores, according to the Register. Settlement amounts are only $10 and are capped at $500.
