Walmart settles EEOC disability discrimination lawsuit for $70,000

Walmart Inc. will pay $70,000 and provide additional relief to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit in South Carolina, the EEOC said Thursday.

Shortly after being hired, a disabled worker who uses a prosthetic leg was given the opportunity to use an electric shopping cart to perform some of his job duties, according to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Months later, this accommodation was reportedly withdrawn by Walmart and the employee was given no alternative.

The employee was later placed on indefinite unpaid leave, according to the civil rights group.
