Pedestrian struck and killed in Dimond Walmart parking lot

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Anchorage police say a vehicle struck a pedestrian in a busy South Anchorage parking lot Wednesday afternoon.

APD responded to the parking lot, across from the Walmart at 88th Avenue and Old Seward Highway, just before 3 p.m., and police say the driver is cooperating with police. There are no road closures; Police say a drone will be used in the investigation.

This is the second fatal car-pedestrian crash in the area in the past week. On Sunday, about two miles directly south of the scene of Wednesday’s crash, a drunk driver struck 30-year-old Brian Pederson to death.

The driver fled the scene of Sunday’s accident, but police later found him. His DUI charge was upgraded to manslaughter.

This is a development story. Check back later for updates.
