Much has been said about the Vancouver Stanley Cup riots, but I felt the need to share some iPhone pictures that I took on the way out of downtown. Frankly, I’m embarrassed to even have stayed long enough to see this.
The volunteer cleanup effort the next morning did, however, give me hope for our city. Despite the senseless carnage the good people of Vancouver helped bring this place to life. Continue reading “Vancouver Stanley Cup Riot Photos” »
This was the scene on Granville Street in downtown Vancouver after the Canucks won game 5 against the Boston Bruins. I’m admittedly not the biggest hockey fan, but it’s hard not to get swept up in the excitement. You can already hear the madness around Vancouver as the city prepares for the final game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs! GO CANUCKS!
My friend Al sent me this video of a wily Boston Bruins fan taking on the city of Vancouver, and since it’s absolute hockey mania in Vancouver, I thought I’d share. While it’s true Vancouver is full of yuppies, Andrew Barber needs to shave that awful excuse for a playoff beard.
If you’re going to watch make sure you watch the whole video. Particularly if you’re a Bruins fan.
It’s hard not to get on the Canucks bandwagon right now. The boys are on fire and so is Van city. There have been a number of fan made viral video and songs, and in a city with a deep talent pool, it was only a matter of time before some professionals stepped into the ring. Kyprios’ YouTube based Canuck tribute “How the West Was Won” is actually pretty cool. Next up Moka Only>?
I’m not that into re-posting content from around the web, but this one is too funny not to.
Last week Tiger Woods duffed a shot that almost took out a photographer. The result was one of the greatest golf images ever. I don’t actually know this for fact, but that’s what people that know way more about golf than I do are saying, and granted, it’s a pretty neat photo.

The coolest thing about the photo which is actually hilarious is the guy in the right hand corner smoking the cigar. Who even let this guy onto a PGA course? Fake moustache plus cigar he looks like something out of an Adam Sandler movie. Rob Schneider, is that you?
Anyway, Cigar Guy is now a cultural icon and is having his face photoshopped into just about everything from Time Magazine covers to celebrity fan photos, but the one below is my favourite (via Deadspin). Enjoy your 15 minutes Cigar Guy.
In Stage 6 of the this year’s 2010 Tour de France a fight erupted for the second time this tour. This time it was an outbreak between Carlos Barredo of team Quick Step and Rui Costa of team Caisse d’Epargne. It’s not clear what the fight was about, but it definitely added to the action, which begs the question — is fighting in The Tour a good thing?
As much as cycling is a gentleman’s sport it’s also a bit lame to watch on TV. A little fighting could boost the ratings and make things a little more exciting for the average viewer.
While it may not be a good thing for the sport in terms of sportsmanlike conduct, it could boost ratings and bring a little more awareness to cycling.
In addition to that I have to say that so far I’m disappointed with TSN’s coverage of the Tour de France. Last night there were no highlights, and tonight there were only highlights because a fight broke out. I get the sense the network is just taking the piss out of my sport.
So, if a few punches is what it takes to get some cycling coverage on TV, I’m in!
I am a video producer, photographer, content creator, world traveller, and all around student of life. This blog is part work, part travel, and part whatever happens to be on my mind at the moment. I like bicycles, wine, food, and people, mostly in that order, and I live to learn and share as much about this world as possible. Simply put, I love a good story!
