Laughing Stock Pinot Noir

2008 Vintage

July 2010
The LFNG Pinot Noir has been a bit elusive to me in my time spent here in the Okanagan. I’ve been to the winery many times, but the sort of biannual release of their Pinot Noir is something that I have not been in tune with, so this trip to the Naramata Bench I was on a mission to get some.

Unfortunately they were not tasting the recently released Pinot Noir on this occasion so I was forced to buy a bottle — poor me — life is difficult sometimes.

On first pour this wine is a bit darker than I’ve seen in other Pinot’s around the valley. It’s light in body but has a distinct rust colour to it. On the nose it’s soft fruit and caramel — definitely not overpowering. I might even dare to say delicate. The palate brings the familiar bright fruit tastes of cassis and ripe raspberry with subtle caramel undertone.

Overall It’s tart, light, fruity, and lightly acidic with a nice light oak caramel finish. At about $29 CAD it’s not the cheapest in the neighbourhood, but also not the most expensive. I really like what winemaker David Enns has done here. This is a great Pinot Noir, and definitely one of the best on the Naramata Bench, if not the entire valley.

I’m going to go ahead and say buy this one and drink it right away, but that is just my humble opinion.
