La Frenz Pinot Noir Reserve

La Frenz is without a doubt one of the best wineries in the Okanagan, and while their Pinot Noir may not be my absolute favourite in the valley, it’s a solid contender. Across the board La Frenz offers a consistently great portfolio of wines.

The Pinot Noir is no exception to that and offers up a nice summer sipping red. On the nose I get a bit of earth and a caramel/toffee light toasted oak sniff. The palate brings some textured dark fruit taste of ripe plums mixed with tart blackberries. Earthy undertones and a cigar like light oak round out the finish of this smooth sipping Pinot Noir.

There seems to be enough bright fruit characteristics and acid to lay this one down for a few years. All in all I like this one, but at $35 it is on the upper end of the La Frenz pricing scale, but definitely a decent choice.

In terms of food pairing I’d go with the usual chicken and savoury fish dishes like sablefish or seared ahi tuna.

La Frenz again pulls out a vintage that is easily approachable, but complex enough for even a discerning palate. If I’m correct the Pinot Noir is only available every couple of years, so grab this one while you can.
