Okanagan Wine Fest Spring 2010

Black Hills Winery in Oliver

This is my 4th Spring Wine Festival, which as a 28 year old makes me a ripe old veteran of the wine fest circuit here in the Okanagan. I have spent the better part of the last four years tasting wine with some great company who share my particular zeal for Okanagan Wine and have come to visit here from the city.

Being the trooper that I am I feel it is necessary to taste wine from as many wineries as possible to better serve my guests and provide them with the best experience possible. Note that a typical wine fest Saturday morning at Casa Stenberg in Penticton starts with a pack of at least 4 or 5 people rolling off of their respective guest beds, couches, and air mattresses a little late, hungry, and lightly hungover. From there we usually hit The Bench Market for a quick coffee and small meal before wandering the tasting circuit.

For the 2010 Spring Wine Fest I expect nothing less, and in the interest of happy fun times I have come up with this personal list of must-see wineries in the Okanagan. This is my personal itinerary of wineries that I’m interested in going to. Some are old favourites and others I have never been to, but have caught my attention somehow. If I could, I would go to all of them, but there are only so many hours in the day. Here is my personal must-see list for the Spring Wine Fest.

Kelowna/West Kelowna

Summerland

Penticton/Naramata Bench

Okanagan Falls

South Okanagan (Oliver / Osoyoos)

I like your list, Chris. Good mix of the eclectic, the popular and the unique. However, I am shocked and outraged (not really, but that’s my standard “letter to the editor” schtick) that Township 7 was not included. Where else can you wander over to the fence with your glass of wine and chat with the neighbour’s horses? Also, under the counter supplies of Black Cloud Pinot are to be had there as well.
    Hope to see you around!

  2. I should clarify that this list is my personal to do list and I have left off so many great wineries. This area is full of amazing wine, Township 7 included, I just need more time so that I can go to all of them! I am keen for the underground Black Cloud Pinot Noir also. Where can I get my hands on it?

  3. On second thought don’t tell me. That would ruin the mystique. I will find it!

  4. As being a simple rule of thumb, crimson wine is most effective served in between 62-sixty five°F, while a high quality white wine needs to be appreciated after it’s in between 58-62°F.
