Box Wine Inventor Dies at 92
Thomas Angove, a man clearly ahead of his time and incidentally the inventor creator of box wine, has passed away.
Box wine may have finally seen its day with the de-romanticized version of wine known as the screw cap. This cap provides a spoil free environment in which wine can age. The same could be true for box wine as it is totally sealed ensuring it’s quality and longevity far beyond a typical open bottle.
Box wine will typically last anywhere from 1-3 months as opposed to 1-3 days for an open bottle of wine. Other than Monster Vineyards, Pentage has also released a box wine.
Maybe it’s time to get over the stigma of box wine and embrace the fact it may actually be a better product that provides great wine with some longevity. Really, it’s perfect for the one glass a night crowd that would have issues opening up a good bottle and then wasting half of it.
Box wine inventor dies as his genius finally gets its due – On the Table – April 2010.
