What is Chat Roulette?
Chatroulette or Chat Roulette in the English that I know is a kind of webcam game where you are connected via webcam with random strangers from anywhere around the world. I’m not sure if this is social media hype, or if this is actually here to stay. Is chatroulette the new random socializing? It seems like a cross between a frat party for computer programmers and internet speed-dating, although the point really has nothing to do with dating. With that said I’m keen to see when the first couple to get married off of Chatroulette will happen.
It’s a strange fascination people must have with this thing. I honestly don’t really get it, and I am a bit too freaked to try it out, but if you feel inclined check it out at chatroulette.com but before you do you should probably watch the video above by Casey Neistat. Not only does it explain Chatroulette, but it also contains a user segmentation research report of the users of Chatroulette.
And, if you have even more time check out the Neistat Brothers site. These guys are weird, but in a kind of nerdy Michel Gondry kind of way.
A little too f’ed for me. I didn’t have the balls to check it out, but a few people have been telling me about this lately… It seems like it is almost as if you are riding transit and striking up conversations with random people… and then just jumping off the bus… Anyway, like I said a little too f’ed for me.
I agree. I wanted to try it but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Some cultural phenomenons I do not need to be a part of.
