Road 13 Red

The other night at dinner at The Hooded Merganser in Penticton some friends and I ordered a bottle of the 2008 Road 13 Honest John’s Red. I’ve heard some great things about Road 13, but I honestly haven’t tried any of their wines since they were named Golden Mile Cellars. I’ve seen the Honest John’s Red around and mostly noted is the totally reasonable price tag of about $19 Canadian.

After a quick taste, and another few big gulps, I would say that this wine definitely makes my great Canadian reds under $25 list. All I can say about it is that is a bright bright wine full of ripe raspberry and cherry on the nose with a good dose of pepper. In short this unusual blend of  Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon is a fun and easy drinking red wine from the Okanagan at a very reasonable price. I had a beef tenderloin with pomegranate/molasses jus over at The Local Lounge a few weeks back and I think this wine would go perfectly with that or even a nice salmon fillet.

Check out the winery tasting notes PDF here.

(My apologies for the crappy picture. It was dark and I only had my iPhone.)
