Air Canada Executive First Class Wine List
I’m always impressed with Air Canada’s wine selections in Executive First class. The choices by Air Canada’s Sommellier Ken Chase (wine consultant to a variety of airlines including Air Canada, American Airlines, etc.) are more than I expected from an airline, and usually an interesting choice. It would be nice to see a bit more Canadian flavour on the menu, but I’m not complaining at this point. This was an international trip, but I have seen some of the same wines in Executive First Class on domestic flights also.
During this recent trip to London I was fortunate enough to have an Executive First seat both ways and sampled a few of the complimentary wine offerings. A quick internet search of the supple Champagne Drappier Cart D’Or Brut from France reveals that it is about a $35-$40CAD bottle of Brut. It was nice enough to have an extra glass.
The Pago de Circus Tempranillo from Navarra was also quite nice. I’m not sure what this clocks in at, but I would drink this wine in my house let alone an airplane. Subtle vanilla flavours, a bit of oak and a nice full body make this a great dinner wine.
I enjoyed the wine selections to the point where I looked for them locally in British Columbia and have yet to find them available. If anybody out there knows where I can pick some up in the Okanagan, or in Vancouver please drop me a line!
